Protein Powder
Getting results from your bodybuilding program depends on not just one, but several different factors combined. You may be putting a lot of effort into it, working out 4-5 days a week, with high level of intensity, but if you don't have the proper recovery and the right supplements, you won't have any success. According Ronnie Coleman, in bodybuilding, there are for factors that will ultimately determine whether you make it or not - energy, mental focus, work intensity and recovery. As far as the recovery part is concerned, you need some type of protein powder in order to provide your body with the nutrition required.
Studies have shown that if you want to build up muscle mass, then you must consume 0.8-1 gram of protein per every pound of bodyweight, meaning that on an average basis, one must consume (depending on his weight) between 150-200 grams of protein per day. This is quite hard to achieve by just eating 3 meals a day, considering the fact that they usually contain between 30-40 grams of protein. That's why you need an extra protein source in the form of powder. There are many manufactures of protein powder like Universal, Optimum, ABB, MLO, Musashi and tens of other companies.
Protein powder is more effectively used for muscle growth when taken in frequent smaller doses for a more constant influx of amino acids. Nevertheless, total protein consumption is a concern, so job one is making certain you get in the 200 g each day. Since most people are running on a busy schedule, they don't have time for 5-6 or six meals a day, so consuming 2-3 protein shakes in between the meals is ideal.
Research show that total protein intake isn't the only critical element in a bodybuilding diet - timing is also critical, especially in relation to workouts. If you consume five meals a day, then 40-50 g of protein at each will suffice. And you will get better overall results. The protein powder is made out of amino acids, which are the basic component in muscle tissue. That's why you need plenty of amino acids available so that your body can build muscle tissue at maximum rate. You must not fall short of the 200 gram protein a day barrier. Otherwise, instead of gaining muscle mass, you will be loosing or staying the same at best. It's always best to mix up your protein powder right after workout. Lee Labrada sells his Lean Body protein powder already packed in separate dosages for the same exact reason.
